a space in 500 pieces, 2012
An interactive installation, 5 x 3 m.
The 5 x 3m installation on the wall of the multimedia center Mala Stanica in Skopje, is based on a world map, consisting of 500 grey-coloured squares, resembling pixels. 500 square cards are posted to the center’s visiting list and also handed out to people in the city of Skopje, at schools, inside gyms and supermarkets. People are first invited to choose a color that suits the world and colour-in one square card accordingly. Then they had to visit Mala Stanica in order to place their square anywhere on the collective puzzle and in this way contribute to the map’s coloring, which was in a constant state of flux during the exhibition. The final collective color of the world will totally depend on the site’s visitors and their willingness to interact.
A specially designed leaflet-type catalogue with a miniature map of pixels and information about the project was handed out to all gallery visitors, as a souvenir. Many thanks to all participants!
