postcard invitation for a dance, 2021
An interactive project installation with 200, A6 size, numbered postcards and a 1 min stop motion animation video. In collaboration with Evangelia Kolyra.
We are well trained and especially familiar with the use of instructions, as a means of transmitting information, from an early age. We are used to accepting written information that describe the directions for use of a particular object, material, tool or digital medium. Other times, instructions are given to us as an indication of how we should act.
The use of guidelines and the establishment of health protocols during the recent pandemic, had a definitive impact on our lives. The strict observance of distances, the controlled exit from our residents, the mandatory use of a mask and the enforced use of antiseptics before and after contacting objects and people, have created a new kind of reality.
The collective project “Postcard Invitation for a Dance”, is the first part of a collaborative inquiry between the visual artist Lea Petrou and the choreographer Evangelia Kolyra, which concerns the repositioning of the human body in space and the interpretation of free movement.
200 numbered postcards were available to the public during the exhibition. The design on the cards consists mainly of a text describing, in detail, the very simple kinesiology instructions of the choreography performed on a 1 min, stop motion animation video. Visitors can take a card as a souvenir, as well as indulge in the suggested practice on-site, at the exhibition space, or at home.
