Both embroidery and linocut print are replicas of a stamp worth 0.25 Monégasque francs. The original design was issued on the 2nd of May 1978, in Monaco, as part of a set of 8 stamps, designed and engraved by Pierre Forget, to celebrate the sesquicentennial of the sci-fi novelist Jules Verne. This work is a two version replica of one of the 3 stamps depicting a scene from Jules Verne’s “The Mysterious Island”, set during the Siege of Richmond, at the end of the American Civil War in 1865.
